Mark 5

The Gerasene demoniac

(Mt 8:28; Lk 8:26)

1 They arrived on the other side of the lake in the region of the Gera­senes. 2 No sooner did Jesus leave the boat than he was met by a man with evil spirits who had come from the tombs. 3 He lived among the tombs and no one could restrain him, even with a chain. 4 He had often been bound with fetters and chains but he would pull the chains apart and smash the fet­ters, and no one had the strength to control him. 5 Night and day he stayed among the tombs on the hillsides, and was continually screaming and beating himself with stones.

6 When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell at his feet 7 and cried with a loud voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, son of the Most High God? For God’s sake I beg you, do not torment me.” 8 He said this because Jesus had commanded, “Come out of the man, evil spirit.” 9 And when Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” he replied, “Legion is my name, for we are many.” 10 And all of them kept begging Jesus not to send them out of that region.

11 Now, a great herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside, 12 and the evil spirits begged him, “Send us to the pigs and let us go into them.” 13 So Jesus let them go. The evil spirits came out of the man and went into the pigs, and immediately the herd rushed down the cliff and all were drowned in the lake. 14 The herdsmen fled and reported this in the town and in the countryside, so all the peo­ple came to see what had happened.

15 They came to Jesus and saw the man freed of the evil spirits sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, the same man who had been possessed by the legion. They were afraid. 16 And when those who had seen it told what had happened to the man and to the pigs, 17 the people begged Je­sus to leave their neigh­­borhood.

18 When Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed begged to stay with him. 19 Jesus would not let him and said, “Go home to your people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So he went throughout the country of Deca­po­lis telling ­every­one how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were astonished.

Jesus raises the daughter of Jairus

(Mt 9:18; Lk 8:40)

• 21 Jesus then crossed to the other side of the lake and while he was still on the shore, a large crowd gathered around him. 22 Jairus, an official of the synagogue, came up and seeing Je­sus, threw himself at his feet 23 and asked him earnestly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her so that she may get well and live.”

24 Jesus went with him and many peo­ple followed, pressing from every side. 25 Among the crowd was a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a lot at the hands of many doctors and had spent everything she had, but instead of getting better, she was worse. 27 Since she had heard about Jesus, this woman came up behind him and touched his cloak 28 think­ing, “If I just touch his clothing, I shall get well.” 29 Her flow of blood dried up at once, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her complaint.

30 But Jesus was conscious that heal­ing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” 31 His disciples answered, “You see how the peo­ple are crowding around you. Why do you ask who touched you?” 32 But he kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the wo­man, aware of what had happened, came forward trembling and afraid. She knelt before him and told him the whole truth.

• 34 Then Jesus said to her, “Daugh­­ter, your faith has saved you; go in peace and be free of this illness.”

35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people arrived from the official’s house to inform him, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Mas­ter any further?” 36 But Jesus ignored what they said and told the official, “Do not fear, just believe.” 37 And he allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James and John, the brother of James.

• 38 When they arrived at the house, Jesus saw a great commotion with people weep­­­ing and wailing loudly. ­39 Jesus entered and said to them, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep.”

40 They laughed at him. But Jesus sent them outside and went with the child’s father and mother and his companions into the room where the child lay. 41 Taking her by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha kumi!” which means: “Little girl, get up!”

42 The girl got up at once and began to walk around. (She was twelve years old.) The parents were astonished, greatly astonished. 43 Jesus strictly ordered them not to let anyone know about it, and told them to give her something to eat.

Genesis 8

1 recordatus autem Deus Noe cunctarumque animantium et omnium iumentorum quae erant cum eo in arca adduxit spiritum super terram et inminutae sunt aquae

 

And God remembered Noe, and all the living creatures, and all the cattle which were with him in the ark, and brought a wind upon the earth, and the waters were abated.

 

2 et clausi sunt fontes abyssi et cataractae caeli et prohibitae sunt pluviae de caelo

 

The fountains also of the deep, and the flood gates of heaven were shut up, and the rain from heaven was restrained.

 

3 reversaeque aquae de terra euntes et redeuntes et coeperunt minui post centum quinquaginta dies

 

And the waters returned from off the earth going and coming: and they began to be abated after a hundred and fifty days.

 

4 requievitque arca mense septimo vicesima septima die mensis super montes Armeniae

 

And the ark rested in the seventh month, the seven and twentieth day of the month, upon the mountains of Armenia.

 

5 at vero aquae ibant et decrescebant usque ad decimum mensem decimo enim mense prima die mensis apparuerunt cacumina montium

 

And the waters were going and decreasing until the tenth month: for in the tenth month, the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains appeared.

 

6 cumque transissent quadraginta dies aperiens Noe fenestram arcae quam fecerat dimisit corvum

 

And after that forty days were passed, Noe, opening the window of the ark which he had made, sent forth a raven:

 

7 qui egrediebatur et revertebatur donec siccarentur aquae super terram

 

Which went forth and did not return, till the waters were dried up upon the earth.

 

8 emisit quoque columbam post eum ut videret si iam cessassent aquae super faciem terrae

 

He sent forth also a dove after him, to see if the waters had now ceased upon the face of the earth.

 

9 quae cum non invenisset ubi requiesceret pes eius reversa est ad eum in arcam aquae enim erant super universam terram extenditque manum et adprehensam intulit in arcam

 

But she, not finding where her foot might rest, returned to him into the ark: for the waters were upon the whole earth: and he put forth his hand, and caught her, and brought her into the ark.

 

10 expectatis autem ultra septem diebus aliis rursum dimisit columbam ex arca

 

And having waited yet seven other days, he again sent forth the dove out of the ark.

 

11 at illa venit ad eum ad vesperam portans ramum olivae virentibus foliis in ore suo intellexit ergo Noe quod cessassent aquae super terram

 

And she came to him in the evening, carrying a bough of an olive tree, with green leaves, in her mouth. Noe therefore understood that the waters were ceased upon the earth.

 

12 expectavitque nihilominus septem alios dies et emisit columbam quae non est reversa ultra ad eum

 

And he stayed yet other seven days: and he sent forth the dove, which returned not any more unto him.

 

13 igitur sescentesimo primo anno primo mense prima die mensis inminutae sunt aquae super terram et aperiens Noe tectum arcae aspexit viditque quod exsiccata esset superficies terrae

 

Therefore in the six hundreth and first year, the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were lessened upon the earth, and Noe opening the covering of the ark, looked, and saw that the face of the earth was dried.

 

14 mense secundo septima et vicesima die mensis arefacta est terra

 

In the second month, the seven and twentieth day of the month, the earth was dried.

 

15 locutus est autem Deus ad Noe dicens

 

And God spoke to Noe, saying:

 

16 egredere de arca tu et uxor tua filii tui et uxores filiorum tuorum tecum

 

Go out of the ark, thou and thy wife, thy sons, and the wives of thy sons with thee.

 

17 cuncta animantia quae sunt apud te ex omni carne tam in volatilibus quam in bestiis et in universis reptilibus quae reptant super terram educ tecum et ingredimini super terram crescite et multiplicamini super eam

 

All livings things that are with thee of all flesh, as well in fowls as in beasts, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, bring out with thee, and go ye upon the earth: increased and multiply upon it.

 

18 egressus est ergo Noe et filii eius uxor illius et uxores filiorum eius cum eo

 

So Noe went out, he and his sons: his wife, and the wives of his sons with him.

 

19 sed et omnia animantia iumenta et reptilia quae repunt super terram secundum genus suum arcam egressa sunt

 

And all living things, and cattle, and creeping things that creep upon the earth, according to their kinds, went out of the ark.

 

20 aedificavit autem Noe altare Domino et tollens de cunctis pecoribus et volucribus mundis obtulit holocausta super altare

 

And Noe built an altar unto the Lord: and taking of all cattle and fowls that were clean, offered holocausts upon the altar.

 

21 odoratusque est Dominus odorem suavitatis et ait ad eum nequaquam ultra maledicam terrae propter homines sensus enim et cogitatio humani cordis in malum prona sunt ab adulescentia sua non igitur ultra percutiam omnem animantem sicut feci

 

And the Lord smelled a sweet savour, and said: I will no more curse the earth for the sake of man: for the imagination and thought of man’s heart are prone to evil from his youth: therefore I will no more destroy every living soul as I have done.

 

22 cunctis diebus terrae sementis et messis frigus et aestus aestas et hiemps nox et dies non requiescent

 

All the days of the earth, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, night and day, shall not cease.

Genesis 7

1 dixitque Dominus ad eum ingredere tu et omnis domus tua arcam te enim vidi iustum coram me in generatione hac

 

And the Lord said to him: Go in thou and all thy house into the ark: for thee I have seen just before me in this generation.

 

2 ex omnibus animantibus mundis tolle septena septena masculum et feminam de animantibus vero non mundis duo duo masculum et feminam

 

Of all clean beasts take seven and seven, the male and female. But of the beasts that are unclean two and two, the male and female.

 

3 sed et de volatilibus caeli septena septena masculum et feminam ut salvetur semen super faciem universae terrae

 

Of the fowls also of the air seven and seven,the male and the female: that seed may be saved upon the face of the whole earth.

 

4 adhuc enim et post dies septem ego pluam super terram quadraginta diebus et quadraginta noctibus et delebo omnem substantiam quam feci de superficie terrae

 

For yet a while, and after seven days, I will rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will destroy every substance that I have made, from the face of the earth.

 

5 fecit ergo Noe omnia quae mandaverat ei Dominus

 

And Noe did all things which the Lord had commanded him.

 

6 eratque sescentorum annorum quando diluvii aquae inundaverunt super terram

 

And he was six hundred years old, when the waters of the flood overflowed the earth.

 

7 et ingressus est Noe et filii eius uxor eius et uxores filiorum eius cum eo in arcam propter aquas diluvii

 

And Noe went in and his sons, his wife and the wives of his sons with him into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.

 

8 de animantibus quoque mundis et inmundis et de volucribus et ex omni quod movetur super terram

 

And of the beasts clean and unclean, and of fowls, and of every thing that moveth upon the earth,

 

9 duo et duo ingressa sunt ad Noe in arcam masculus et femina sicut praeceperat Deus Noe

 

Two and two went in to Noe into the ark, male and female, as the Lord had commanded Noe.

 

10 cumque transissent septem dies aquae diluvii inundaverunt super terram

 

And after seven days were passed, the waters of the flood overflowed the earth.

 

11 anno sescentesimo vitae Noe mense secundo septimodecimo die mensis rupti sunt omnes fontes abyssi magnae et cataractae caeli apertae sunt

 

In the six hundreth year of the life of Noe in the second month, in the seventeenth day of the month, all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the flood gates of heaven were open:

 

12 et facta est pluvia super terram quadraginta diebus et quadraginta noctibus

 

And the rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.

 

13 in articulo diei illius ingressus est Noe et Sem et Ham et Iafeth filii eius uxor illius et tres uxores filiorum eius cum eis in arcam

 

In the selfsame day Noe, and Sem, and Cham, and Japheth his sons: his wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, went into the ark:

 

14 ipsi et omne animal secundum genus suum universaque iumenta in genus suum et omne quod movetur super terram in genere suo cunctumque volatile secundum genus suum universae aves omnesque volucres

 

They and every beast according to its kind, and all the cattle in their kind, and every thing that moveth upon the earth according to its kind, and every fowl according to its kind, and every fowl according to its kind, all birds, and all that fly.

 

15 ingressae sunt ad Noe in arcam bina et bina ex omni carne in qua erat spiritus vitae

 

Went in to Noe into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein was the breath of life.

 

16 et quae ingressa sunt masculus et femina ex omni carne introierunt sicut praeceperat ei Deus et inclusit eum Dominus de foris

 

And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the Lord shut him in on the outside.

 

17 factumque est diluvium quadraginta diebus super terram et multiplicatae sunt aquae et elevaverunt arcam in sublime a terra

 

And the flood was forty days upon the earth, and the waters increased, and lifted up the ark on high from earth.

 

18 vehementer inundaverunt et omnia repleverunt in superficie terrae porro arca ferebatur super aquas

 

For they overflowed exceedingly: and filled all on the face of the earth: and the ark was carried upon the waters.

 

19 et aquae praevaluerunt nimis super terram opertique sunt omnes montes excelsi sub universo caelo

 

And the waters prevailed beyond measure upon the earth: and all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered.

 

20 quindecim cubitis altior fuit aqua super montes quos operuerat

 

The water was fifteen cubits higher than the mountains which it covered.

 

21 consumptaque est omnis caro quae movebatur super terram volucrum animantium bestiarum omniumque reptilium quae reptant super terram universi homines

 

And all flesh was destroyed that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beasts, and of all creeping things that creep upon the earth: and all men.

 

22 et cuncta in quibus spiraculum vitae est in terra mortua sunt

 

And all things wherein there is the breath of life on the earth, died.

 

23 et delevit omnem substantiam quae erat super terram ab homine usque ad pecus tam reptile quam volucres caeli et deleta sunt de terra remansit autem solus Noe et qui cum eo erant in arca

 

And he destroyed all the substance that was upon the earth, from man to beast, and the creeping things and fowls of the air: and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noe only remained, and they that were with him in the ark.

 

24 obtinueruntque aquae terras centum quinquaginta diebus

 

And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.

Genesis 6

1 cumque coepissent homines multiplicari super terram et filias procreassentAnd after that men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and daughters were born to them.

 

2 videntes filii Dei filias eorum quod essent pulchrae acceperunt uxores sibi ex omnibus quas elegerantThe sons of God seeing the daughters of men, that they were fair, took themselves wives of all which they chose.

 

3 dixitque Deus non permanebit spiritus meus in homine in aeternum quia caro est eruntque dies illius centum viginti annorumAnd God said: My spirit shall not remain in man for ever, because he is flesh, and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

 

4 gigantes autem erant super terram in diebus illis postquam enim ingressi sunt filii Dei ad filias hominum illaeque genuerunt isti sunt potentes a saeculo viri famosiNow giants were upon the earth in those days. For after the sons of God went in to the daughters of men and they brought forth children, these are the mighty men of old, men of renown.

 

5 videns autem Deus quod multa malitia hominum esset in terra et cuncta cogitatio cordis intenta esset ad malum omni temporeAnd God seeing that the wickedness of men was great on the earth, and that all the thought of their heart was bent upon evil at all times,

 

6 paenituit eum quod hominem fecisset in terra et tactus dolore cordis intrinsecusIt repented him that he had made man on the earth. And being touched inwardly with sorrow of heart,

 

7 delebo inquit hominem quem creavi a facie terrae ab homine usque ad animantia a reptili usque ad volucres caeli paenitet enim me fecisse eosHe said: I will destroy man, whom I have created, from the face of the earth, from man even to beasts, from the creeping thing even to the fowls of the air, for it repenteth me that I have made them.

 

8 Noe vero invenit gratiam coram DominoBut Noe found grace before the Lord.

 

9 hae generationes Noe Noe vir iustus atque perfectus fuit in generationibus suis cum Deo ambulavitThese are the generations of Noe: Noe was a just and perfect man in his generations, he walked with God.

 

10 et genuit tres filios Sem Ham et IafethAnd he begot three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.

 

11 corrupta est autem terra coram Deo et repleta est iniquitateAnd the earth was corrupted before God, and was filled with iniquity.

 

12 cumque vidisset Deus terram esse corruptam omnis quippe caro corruperat viam suam super terramAnd when God had seen that the earth was corrupted (for all flesh had corrupted its way upon the earth,)

 

13 dixit ad Noe finis universae carnis venit coram me repleta est terra iniquitate a facie eorum et ego disperdam eos cum terraHe said to Noe: The end of all flesh is come before me, the earth is filled with iniquity through them, and I will destroy them with the earth.

 

14 fac tibi arcam de lignis levigatis mansiunculas in arca facies et bitumine linies intrinsecus et extrinsecusMake thee an ark of timber planks: thou shalt make little rooms in the ark, and thou shalt pitch it within and without.

 

15 et sic facies eam trecentorum cubitorum erit longitudo arcae quinquaginta cubitorum latitudo et triginta cubitorum altitudo illiusAnd thus shalt thou make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits: the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.

 

16 fenestram in arca facies et in cubito consummabis summitatem ostium autem arcae pones ex latere deorsum cenacula et tristega facies in eaThou shalt make a window in the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish the top of it: and the door of the ark thou shalt set in the side: with lower, middle chambers, and third stories shalt thou make it.

 

17 ecce ego adducam diluvii aquas super terram ut interficiam omnem carnem in qua spiritus vitae est subter caelum universa quae in terra sunt consumenturBehold I will bring the waters of a great flood upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, under heaven. All things that are in the earth shall be consumed.

 

18 ponamque foedus meum tecum et ingredieris arcam tu et filii tui uxor tua et uxores filiorum tuorum tecumAnd I will establish my covenant with thee, and thou shalt enter into the ark, thou and thy sons, and thy wife, and the wives of thy sons with thee.

 

19 et ex cunctis animantibus universae carnis bina induces in arcam ut vivant tecum masculini sexus et femininiAnd of every living creature of all flesh, thou shalt bring two of each sort into the ark, that they may live with thee: of the male sex, and the female.

 

20 de volucribus iuxta genus suum et de iumentis in genere suo et ex omni reptili terrae secundum genus suum bina de omnibus ingredientur tecum ut possint vivereOf fowls according to their kind, and of beasts in their kind, and of every thing that creepeth on earth according to its kind; two of every sort shall go in with thee, that they may live.

 

21 tolles igitur tecum ex omnibus escis quae mandi possunt et conportabis apud te et erunt tam tibi quam illis in cibumThou shalt take unto thee of all food that may be eaten, and thou shalt lay it up with thee: and it shall be food for thee and them.

 

22 fecit ergo Noe omnia quae praeceperat illi DeusAnd Noe did all things which God commanded him.

Genesis 5

1 hic est liber generationis Adam in die qua creavit Deus hominem ad similitudinem Dei fecit illum

 

This is the book of the generation of Adam. In the day that God created man, he made him to the likeness of God.

 

2 masculum et feminam creavit eos et benedixit illis et vocavit nomen eorum Adam in die qua creati sunt

 

He created them male and female; and blessed them: and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

 

3 vixit autem Adam centum triginta annis et genuit ad similitudinem et imaginem suam vocavitque nomen eius Seth

 

And Adam lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot a son to his own image and likeness, and called his name Seth.

 

4 et facti sunt dies Adam postquam genuit Seth octingenti anni genuitque filios et filias

 

And the days of Adam, after he begot Seth, were eight hundred years: and he begot sons and daughters.

 

5 et factum est omne tempus quod vixit Adam anni nongenti triginta et mortuus est

 

And all the time that Adam lived came to nine hundred and thirty years, and he died.

 

6 vixit quoque Seth centum quinque annos et genuit Enos

 

Seth also lived a hundred and five years, and begot Enos.

 

7 vixitque Seth postquam genuit Enos octingentis septem annis genuitque filios et filias

 

And Seth lived after he begot Enos, eight hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

8 et facti sunt omnes dies Seth nongentorum duodecim annorum et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died.

 

9 vixit vero Enos nonaginta annis et genuit Cainan

 

And Enos lived ninety years, and begot Cainan.

 

10 post cuius ortum vixit octingentis quindecim annis et genuit filios et filias

 

After whose birth he lived eight hundred and fifteen years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

11 factique sunt omnes dies Enos nongentorum quinque annorum et mortuus est

 

And the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years, and he died.

 

12 vixit quoque Cainan septuaginta annis et genuit Malalehel

 

And Cainan lived seventy years, and begot Malaleel.

 

13 et vixit Cainan postquam genuit Malalehel octingentos quadraginta annos genuitque filios et filias

 

And Cainan lived after he begot Malaleel, eight hundred forty years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

14 et facti sunt omnes dies Cainan nongenti decem anni et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.

 

15 vixit autem Malalehel sexaginta quinque annos et genuit Iared

 

And Malaleel lived sixty-five years, and begot Jared.

 

16 et vixit Malalehel postquam genuit Iared octingentis triginta annis et genuit filios et filias

 

And Malaleel lived after he begot Jared, eight hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

17 et facti sunt omnes dies Malalehel octingenti nonaginta quinque anni et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Malaleel were eight hundred and ninety-five years, and he died.

 

18 vixitque Iared centum sexaginta duobus annis et genuit Enoch

 

And Jared lived a hundred and sixty-two years, and begot Henoch.

 

19 et vixit Iared postquam genuit Enoch octingentos annos et genuit filios et filias

 

And Jared lived after he begot Henoch, eight hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

20 et facti sunt omnes dies Iared nongenti sexaginta duo anni et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Jared were nine hundred and sixty-two years, and he died.

 

21 porro Enoch vixit sexaginta quinque annis et genuit Mathusalam

 

And Henoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Mathusala.

 

22 et ambulavit Enoch cum Deo postquam genuit Mathusalam trecentis annis et genuit filios et filias

 

And Henoch walked with God: and lived after he begot Mathusala, three hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

23 et facti sunt omnes dies Enoch trecenti sexaginta quinque anni

 

And all the days of Henoch were three hundred and sixty-five years.

 

24 ambulavitque cum Deo et non apparuit quia tulit eum Deus

 

And he walked with God, and was seen no more: because God took him.

 

25 vixit quoque Mathusalam centum octoginta septem annos et genuit Lamech

 

And Mathusala lived a hundred and eighty-seven years, and begot Lamech.

 

26 et vixit Mathusalam postquam genuit Lamech septingentos octoginta duos annos et genuit filios et filias

 

And Mathusala lived after he begot Lamech, seven hundred and eighty-two years, and begot sons and daughters.

 

27 et facti sunt omnes dies Mathusalae nongenti sexaginta novem anni et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Mathusala were nine hundred and sixty-nine years, and he died.

 

28 vixit autem Lamech centum octoginta duobus annis et genuit filium

 

And Lamech lived a hundred and eighty-two years, and begot a son.

 

29 vocavitque nomen eius Noe dicens iste consolabitur nos ab operibus et laboribus manuum nostrarum in terra cui maledixit Dominus

 

And he called his name Noe, saying: This same shall comfort us from the works and labours of our hands on the earth which the Lord hath cursed.

 

30 vixitque Lamech postquam genuit Noe quingentos nonaginta quinque annos et genuit filios et filias

 

And Lamech lived after he begot Noe, five hundred and ninety-five years, and he begot sons and daughters.

 

31 et facti sunt omnes dies Lamech septingenti septuaginta septem anni et mortuus est

 

And all the days of Lamech came to seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.

 

32 Noe vero cum quingentorum esset annorum genuit Sem et Ham et Iafeth

 

And Noe, when he was five hundred years old, begot Sem, Cham, and Japheth.

Exodo 6

1 Sinabi ni Yawe kay Moises: “Dahil sa malakas na kamay, paaalisin niya kayo; at dahil sa malakas na bisig ay ipag­­­­­­tatabuyan niya kayo sa kanyang lu­pain. Makikita mo ngayon ang gagawin ko kay Paraon.”

 

 

Isa pang salaysay ng pagtawag kay Moises

 

 

• 2 Nagsalita ang Diyos kay Moises at sinabi: “Ako si Yawe! 3 Napakita ako kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob, bilang Diyos na Makapangya­rihan, ngunit hindi ako nag­pakilala sa kanila sa pangalang Yawe. 4 Nakipagtipan ako sa ka­nila na ibibigay sa kanila ang lupain ng Kanaan, ang lupaing tinirhan nila bilang mga dayuhan. 5 At ngayon, pagkarinig ko sa daing ng mga Israelitang inaalipin ng mga Ehipsiyo naaalaala ko ang aking pakikipagtipan.

 

 

6 Kaya sabihin mo sa kanila: Ako si Yawe, ilalabas ko kayo mula sa pamatok ng Ehipto at palalayain sa pagkaalipin sa kanila. Tutubusin ko kayo sa pamamagitan ng mga kahanga-hangang gawa at sa mga suntok ng aking maka­pangyarihang kamay. 7 Kukunin ko kayo bilang aking bayan at ako ang inyong magi­ging Diyos. At malalaman ninyo na ako si Yaweng Diyos ninyo na naglabas sa inyo mula sa pa­matok ng Ehipto. 8 Dadalhin ko kayo sa lupaing ipinangako kong ibibigay kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob, at ibibigay ko ito sa inyo bilang ari-arian ninyo. Ako si Yawe.”

 

 

9 Sinabi ito ni Moises sa mga anak ng Israel, pero hindi sila nakinig sa kanya sapagkat labis na silang nasiraan ng loob bunga ng malupit na pang-aalipin sa kanila.

 

 

10 Nagsalita si Yawe kay Moises: 11 “Humayo ka at kausapin si Paraong hari ng Ehipto, at sabihin sa kanya na paalisin sa lupain ang bayan ng Israel.” 12 Ngunit sinabi ni Moises: “Kung ang mga Israelita na nga mismo ay hindi nakinig sa akin, paano pa akong pakikinggan ni Paraon, ako na may mapurol na dila?” 13 Ngu­nit kinausap ni Yawe sina Moises at Aaron, at inutusan sila gayundin si Paraon na paalisin sa Ehipto ang bayan ng Israel.

 

 

Mga ninuno nina Moises at Aaron

 

 

14 Narito ang mga pinuno ng mga tribu:

 

 

Mga anak ni Ruben na panganay ni Israel: sina Hanok, Falu, Hesron at Karmi – ito ang angkan ni Ruben.

 

 

15 Mga anak ni Simeon: sina Hamuel, Hamin, Ahod, Hakin, Sojar at Saul na anak ng isang Kananea – ito ang angkan ni Simeon.

 

 

16 Ito naman ang mga anak ni Levi at ang kanilang mga inapo: sina Gerson, Kehat at Merari. Nabuhay si Levi nang sandaa’t tatlum­pu’t pitong taon.

 

 

17 Mga anak ni Gerson: sina Lobni at Semei, at ang kanilang mga inapo.

 

 

18 Mga anak ni Kehat: sina Amram, Hishar, Hebron at Oziel. Nabuhay si Kehat nang san­daa’t tatlumpu’t tatlong taon.

 

 

19 Mga anak ni Merari: sina Majli at Musi. Ito ang mga inapo ni Levi at ang kanilang mga pamilya.

 

 

20 Napangasawa ni Amram ang kanyang tiyahing si Yokabed na nagkaroon ng dalawang anak na lalaki, sina Moises at Aaron. Nabuhay si Amram nang sandaa’t tatlumpu’t pitong taon.

 

 

21 Mga anak ni Hishar: sina Kore, Nefeg at Zicri.

 

 

22 Mga anak ni Oziel: sina Misael, Elisafan at Sitri.

 

 

23 Napangasawa ni Aaron si Elizabeth na anak ni Aminadab, at kapatid ni Najason, at nagkaanak ng apat na lalaki: sina Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar at Itamar.

 

 

24 Mga anak ni Kore: Aser, Elkana at Abiasat. Ito ang angkan ng mga Koreita.

 

 

25 Napangasawa naman ni Eleazar na anak ni Aaron ang isa sa mga anak ni Futiel, at ipinanganak nito sa kanya si Finjas.

 

 

Ito ang mga pinuno ng angkan ng mga Levita, ayon sa mga pamilya.

 

 

26 Ang Aaron at Moises na ito ang sinabihan ni Yawe na “Ilabas ninyo ang bayan ng Israel nang bata-batalyon mula sa lupain ng Ehipto.”

 

 

27 Sila ang nakipag-usap kay Paraong hari ng Ehipto tungkol sa paglalabas sa mga anak ng Israel mula sa Ehipto.

 

 

Sila nga sina Moises at Aaron.

 

 

28 Nang magsalita si Yawe kay Moises sa lupain ng Ehipto, 29 sinabi niya: “Ako si Yawe. Sabihin mo kay Paraong hari ng Ehipto ang lahat ng sinasabi ko sa iyo.” 30 Ngunit sinabi ni Moises: “Mapurol ang aking dila, paano ako pakikinggan ni Paraon?”

Exodo 5

Nakipag-usap si Moises kay Paraon

 

 

1 Pagkatapos ay nagpunta sina Moises at Aaron kay Paraon, at sinabi: “Ito ang sinasabi ni Yaweng Diyos ng Israel – Paalisin mo ang aking bayan upang maipagpiyesta nila ako sa dis­yerto.”

 

 

2 Sumagot si Paraon: “Sino si Yawe para pakinggan ko ang kanyang tinig at pa­alisin ang Israel? Hindi ko kilala si Yawe, at hindi ko paaalisin ang Israel.”

 

 

3 At sinabi naman nila: “Nakipagtag­po sa amin ang Diyos ng mga Hebreo. Pa­yagan mo kaming makapaglakbay nang tatlong araw sa disyerto, at mag-aalay kami roon ng mga hain kay Yaweng Diyos namin. Kung hindi’y paru­rusahan niya kami ng mga salot o tabak.”

 

 

4 Sinabi sa kanila ng hari ng Ehipto: “Moises at Aaron, bakit ninyo pinatitigil ang mga tao sa kanilang trabaho? Buma­lik kayo sa inyong mga trabaho. 5 Napa­karami na ng mga anak-pawis na ito at inaabala pa ninyo sa kanilang mga tra­baho.”

 

 

6 Nang araw ding iyon, iniutos ni Pa­raon sa mga kapatas ng bayan at sa mga sekretaryong Israelita: 7 “Huwag na nin­yong bibigyan ng dayami tulad ng dati ang mga tao para sa paggawa ng tisa. Sila mismo ang palakarin ninyo at pakunin ng dayami para sa kanilang sarili, 8 pero dati pa ring dami ng tisa ang ipagagawa ninyo sa kanila, tulad ng dati, at huwag bawasan kahit isa. Mga tamad sila kaya sila sumi­sigaw na paalisin para mag-alay ng hain sa ka­nilang Diyos. 9 Mas pabigatin pa ninyo ang trabaho ng mga taong ito, at nang hindi nila bigyang-pansin ang mga kasi­nu­ngalingang ito.”

 

 

Mga unang paghihirap

 

 

10 Lumakad ang mga kapatas at ang kanilang mga sekretaryong Israelita, at sinabi sa bayan: “Hindi na kayo bibig­yan pa ni Paraon ng dayami. 11 Kayo mismo ang lumakad at manguha ng dayami para sa inyong sarili saanman kayo maka­kakita, pero di dapat maba­wasan ni isa man ang inyong trabaho.”

 

 

12 Kumalat ang bayan sa buong Ehipto upang manguha ng pinaggapa­sang ma­ga­gamit na dayami. 13 Patuloy silang mi­na­­madali ng mga kapatas sa pagsasabing “Tapusin ang trabahong dapat matapos sa araw-araw, tulad no­ong mayroon ka­yong dayami.” 14 Binug­bog ng mga kapa­tas ang mga sekretar­yong Israelita na kanilang pinamahala, at sinabi: “Bakit hindi ninyo natapos kaha­pon ni ngayon ang dating dami ng tisa tulad ng dati?”

 

 

15 Nagreklamo kay Paraon ang mga sekretaryong Israelita, at sinabi: “Bakit naman ninyo kami ginaganito? 16 Hindi na nga kami binibigyan ng dayami, pero pinagagawa pa kami ng tisa. Binu­bug­bog kami, pero ang inyong mga ta­uhan ang mali.” 17 Sumagot si Paraon: “Mga batugan! Mga tamad! Kaya gusto ninyong makaalis para mag-alay ng hain kay Yawe. 18 Sige, balik sa inyong mga tra­baho. Hindi kayo bibigyan ng dayami, ngu­nit parehong dami pa rin ng tisa ang inyong gagawin.”

 

 

19 Nakita ng mga sekretaryong Israe­lita na masama ang kanilang lagay. 20 Pag­ka­alis nila sa bahay ni Paraon, nakipag­kita sila kina Moises at Aaron na nag­hihintay sa kanila, 21 at sinabi nila sa mga ito: “Ma­kita sana kayo ni Yawe at hatulan, sapag­kat pinabaho ninyo kami kay Pa­raon at sa kanyang mga opisyal, at inilagay ninyo sa kani­lang kamay ang tabak upang patayin kami.”

 

 

22 Bumaling si Moises kay Yawe at sinabi: “O Panginoon! Bakit naman ganito kasama ang trato mo sa iyong bayan? Bakit mo pa ako sinugo? 23 Mula nang kausapin ko si Paraon sa iyong pangalan, pinahirapan na niya ang ba­yang ito, at wala ka man lang ginawa para iligtas ang iyong bayan!”

Exodo 4

Ang kapangyarihang gumawa ng himala

 

1 Sumagot si Moises kay Yawe: “Paano kung hindi sila mani­wala o makinig sa akin, at sabihin nilang ‘Hindi naman totoong napakita sa iyo si Yawe!’?”

 

2 Kaya tinanong siya ni Yawe: “Ano ’yang hawak mo?” Sumagot siya: “Tung­kod.” 3 Sinabi ni Yawe: “Ihagis mo sa lupa.” Inihagis niya ito sa lupa at naging ahas, at napaurong si Moises. 4 Sinabi ni Yawe: “Hulihin mo sa buntot.” Hinuli iyon ni Moises at naging tungkod uli sa kan­yang kamay. 5 At sinabi ni Yawe: “Ito ay para maniwala sila na napakita sa iyo si Yaweng Diyos ng inyong mga ninuno, ang Diyos ni Abraham, ang Diyos ni Isaac, ang Diyos ni Jacob.”

 

6 At muling sinabi sa kanya ni Yawe: “Ipatong mo ang iyong kamay sa dibdib mo. Ipinatong niya ang kanyang kamay sa kanyang dibdib, at nang iangat niya iyo’y naging ketongin ang kanyang ka­may, simputi ng niyebe. 7 At sinabi ng Diyos: “Ipatong mo uli ang iyong kamay sa dibdib mo.” Ipinatong nga niyang muli ang kan­yang kamay sa kanyang dibdib, at nang muli niya iyong iangat, naging malusog na muli ang kanyang kamay, tulad ng kanyang katawan.

 

8 Idinugtong ni Yawe: “Kapag hindi sila naniwala sa iyo at hindi nakum­binsi ng unang tanda, maniniwala sila kapag na­saksihan nila ang ikalawa. 9 Ngunit kung hindi pa sapat ang dalawang tan­dang ito para maniwala sila sa iyo, ku­mu­ha ka ng tubig sa Ilog Nilo at ibuhos iyon sa tuyong lupa; at ang tubig na ga­ling sa ilog ay magiging dugo sa lupa.”

 

Si Aaron, ang interpreter ni Moises

 

• 10 Sinabi ni Moises kay Yawe: “O Yaweng Panginoon ko, kailanma’y hindi ako naging magaling sa pagsa­salita, kahit na ngayong kinausap mo ako. Mabigat ang aking bibig, mapurol ang aking dila.” 11 Sinabi sa kanya ni Yawe: “Sino ba ang nagbigay sa tao ng bibig? Sino ang nag­paging-pipi sa kanya o bingi, nakakakita o bulag? Hindi ba’t akong si Yawe? 12 Sige, humayo ka na – sasabibig mo ako at itu­turo ko sa iyo ang sasabihin mo.”

 

13 Ngunit iginiit ni Moises: “Panginoon ko naman, iba na lang sana ang isugo mo.” 14 Kaya nagalit si Yawe kay Moises, at sinabi: “Di ba’t kapatid mo si Aaron, ang Levita? Alam kong maga­ling siyang magsalita. Hayu’t dumara­ting siya para salubungin ka, at matutuwa siya kapag nakita ka. 15 Kausapin mo siya at sabihin ang sinabi kong sa­bi­hin mo. At sasainyo ako kapag kina­usap mo siya o nagsalita siya, at ituturo ko ang dapat ninyong gawin. 16 Magsa­salita si Aaron sa bayan para sa iyo; siya ang magiging pinaka-bibig mo, at ikaw nama’y magiging parang Diyos sa kanya. 17 At sa pama­ma­gitan ng tungkod na ito sa iyong kamay, gagawa ka ng mga kahanga-hangang tanda.”

 

18 Umuwi si Moises sa kanyang biyenang si Yetro, at sinabi: “Babalik ako sa aking mga kapatid sa Ehipto para mala­man kung buhay pa sila.” Sinabi ni Yetro kay Moises: “Lumakad ka sa kapa­ya­paan!”

 

Bumalik si Moises sa Ehipto

 

• 19 Sinabi ni Yawe kay Moises sa lupain ng Madian: “Bumalik ka sa Ehipto sa­pag­kat patay nang lahat ang mga taong nag­hangad pumatay sa iyo.”

 

20 Isinama ni Moises ang kanyang may­bahay at mga anak. Isinakay niya sila sa asno, at umalis patungong Ehipto. At hawak ni Moises sa kanyang kamay ang tungkod ng Diyos.

 

21 Sinabi ni Yawe kay Moises: “Sa pag­balik mo sa Ehipto, alalahanin mo ang lahat ng kahanga-hangang bagay na ipi­nagkatiwala ko sa iyo, at gawin ang mga ito sa harap ni Paraon. Gayun­­­­ma’y pa­ti­tigasin ko ang kanyang puso kaya hindi niya paa­alisin ang aking bayan. 22 At sa­sabihin mo kay Paraon – Ito ang sabi ni Yawe – Ang Israel ang aking panga­nay na anak, 23 at sinabi ko sa iyo: Paalisin mo ang aking anak upang makasamba sa akin. Ngunit tu­manggi kang paalisin siya kaya baba­wian ko ng buhay ang iyong panganay na anak.”

 

24 Sa isang bahay-pahingahan sa daan, nilapitan si Moises ng Anghel ni Yawe, at tinangka siyang patayin. 25 Ngu­nit ku­muha si Sefora ng matalas na bato, at hiniwa ang supot ng ari ng kanyang anak na lalaki, at ipinahid ito sa mga paa ni Moises, at sinabi: “Ikaw na nga ngayon ang asawa ko sa pamamagitan ng dugo.” 26 At iniwan ng Anghel si Moises. Sinabi ni Sefora na “asawa sa pamamagitan ng dugo” dahil sa pagtutuli.

 

Tinanggap ng mga Israelita sina Moises at Aaron

27 Sinabi ni Yawe kay Aaron: “Pu­mun­ta ka sa disyerto at salubungin ang iyong kapatid na si Moises.” Kaya luma­kad si Aaron at sinalubong si Moises sa Bundok ng Diyos. Hinalikan niya ito, 28 at isina­laysay ni Moises kay Aaron ang lahat ng sinabi sa kanya ni Yawe at lahat ng tan­dang ipinagagawa sa kanya. 29 Tinipon nina Moises at Aaron ang lahat ng matatanda ng mga Israelita, 30 at sinabi sa kanila ni Aaron ang lahat ng sinabi ni Yawe kay Moises. Ginawa rin niya ang mga tanda sa harap ng buong bayan, 31 at sila’y naniwala. Nang marinig nila na dinalaw ni Yawe ang mga anak ng Israel at nakita ang kani­lang paghihirap, nagpatirapa sila sa lupa at sumamba

Exodo 3

Ang naglalagablab na palumpong

 

1 Inalagaan ni Moises ang mga tupa ni Yetro na kanyang biyenang pari ng Madian. Isang araw, ipinastol niya ang kawan ng kanyang biyenan sa malayong panig ng disyerto at nakarating siya sa Horeb, ang Bundok ng Diyos.

 

2 Napakita sa kanya ang Anghel ni Yawe sa pamamagitan ng lagablab ng apoy na nagmumula sa isang mababang punongkahoy. Nakita ni Moises na ba­ga­mat nag-aapoy ang puno ay hindi iyon nasusunog. 3 Inisip ni Moises: “Lala­pit ako para makita ang kagila-gilalas na tanawing ito. Ba’t kaya di nasusunog ang puno?”

 

4 Nakita ni Yawe na lumalapit si Moises para magmasid, at tinawag siya ng Diyos mula sa mababang punong­kahoy: “Moi­ses, Moises.” Sumagot siya: “Narito ako.” 5 Sinabi naman ni Yawe: “Huwag kang lalapit; hubarin mo ang iyong mga san­dalyas sapagkat ang lugar na kinatatayuan mo ay banal na lupa.” 6 At nag­patuloy ang Diyos: “Ako ang Diyos ng iyong mga ninuno, ang Diyos ni Abra­ham, ang Diyos ni Isaac, at ang Diyos ni Jacob.”

 

Tinakpan ni Moises ang kanyang mukha pagkat natatakot siyang tumi­ngin sa Diyos.

 

7 Sinabi ni Yawe: “Nasaksihan ko ang kahihiyan ng aking bayan sa Ehipto, at narinig ko ang kanilang daing nang pag­malupitan sila ng kanilang mga ka­patas. Alam ko ang kanilang paghi­hirap. 8 Na­naog ako upang palayain sila mula sa kapang­yarihan ng mga Ehipsiyo, at iahon sila mula sa lupaing iyon tungo sa isang maganda at malawak na lupain, sa lu­paing dinadaluyan ng gatas at pulot-pukyutan,

 

 

sa lupain ng mga Kananeo, Heteo, Amorreo, Pereceo, Heveo at Yebuseo. 9 Nakarating sa akin ang daing ng mga anak ng Israel, at nakita ko kung paano sila inaapi ng mga Ehipsiyo.

 

 

10 Lumakad ka ngayon! Sinusugo kita kay Paraon upang ilabas mula sa Ehipto ang aking bayan, ang mga anak ng Israel.”

 

11 Sinabi ni Moises sa Diyos: “Sino ako para humarap kay Paraon, at ilabas ang bayan ng Israel mula sa Ehipto?”

 

12 Sumagot ang Diyos: “Sasaiyo ako, at ito ang magiging tanda na sinugo kita. Pag nailabas mo na sa Ehipto ang bayan, sasambahin ninyo ang Diyos sa bundok na ito.”

 

13 Sumagot naman si Moises sa Diyos: “Kung pupunta ako sa mga Israelita at sasabihin sa kanilang ‘Sinugo ako sa inyo ng Diyos ng inyong mga ninuno,’ tata­nungin nila ako, ‘Ano ang pangalan niya?’ Ano ang isasagot ko sa kanila?”

 

• 14 Sinabi ng Diyos kay Moises: “AKO SIYANG UMIIRAL. Ito ang sasabihin mo sa mga anak ng Israel: SIYANG UMIIRAL ang nagsugo sa akin sa inyo.” 15 At sinabi rin ng Diyos kay Moises: “Sasabihin mo sa mga anak ng Israel: Si YAWENG Diyos ng inyong mga ninuno, ang Diyos ni Abra­ham, ang Diyos ni Isaac, at ang Diyos ni Jacob ang nagsugo sa akin. Ito ang ma­giging pangalan ko magpakailan­man, at sa pangalang ito sila tatawag sa akin sa lahat ng salinlahi.

 

Ang pagsisimula ni Moises

 

16 Humayo ka! Tipunin mo ang mga matatanda ng Israel at sabihin sa kanila: Si Yaweng Diyos ng inyong mga ninu­no, ang Diyos ni Abraham, ang Diyos ni Isaac, at ang Diyos ni Jacob ay napa­kita sa akin at sinabi: Kitang-kita ko ang pag­trato sa inyo ng mga Ehipsiyo, at 17 iaahon ko kayo mula sa lahat ng ka­apihang ito sa Ehipto at dadalhin ka­yo sa lupain ng mga Kananeo, sa lupaing dinadaluyan ng ga­tas at pulot-pukyutan.

 

18 Pakikinggan ka ng mga matatanda ng Israel at magkakasama kayong pu­punta sa palasyo ng hari ng Ehipto, at sasabihin sa kanya: Si Yaweng Diyos ng mga Hebreo ay nakipagtagpo sa amin. Kaya payagan mo kaming maglakbay nang tatlong araw patungo sa ilang upang maghan­dog ng hain kay Yaweng Diyos namin.

 

19 Ngunit alam kong hindi kayo paa­alisin ng hari ng Ehipto hangga’t hindi siya pipilitin. 20 Kaya iuunat ko ang aking kamay at bubugbugin ko ang Ehipto sa lahat ng kahanga-hangang bagay na gagawin ko sa kanila, at pagkatapos ay paaalisin din nila kayo. 21 At pagagaanin ko ang loob ng mga Ehipsiyo sa aking bayan pag alis ninyo; hindi kayo aalis nang walang dala. 22 Bawat babae ay hi­hingi sa kanyang kapitbahay at sa sinu­mang babaeng Ehipsiyong nasa kanyang bahay ng mga bagay na yari sa pilak at ginto, at ng mga damit. At ibi­bihis ninyo ang mga ito sa inyong mga anak, at sa gayo’y sasamsaman ninyo ang mga Ehip­siyo.”

Exodo 2

Iniligtas si Moises mula sa ilog

 

1 May isang lalaki mula sa tribu ni Levi na nakapag-asawa ng isang babae mula rin sa sariling tribu. 2 Nagsilang ang babae ng isang sang­gol na lalaki, at nang makita niyang magan­da ang bata, itinago niya ito sa loob ng tatlong buwan. 3 Nang hindi na niya ma­itatago pa ang bata, gumawa siya ng isang basket na yari sa papiro, at pinintahan iyon ng alkitran at aspalto. Inihi­ga niya sa basket ang bata, at inilagay iyon sa karamihan ng mga puno ng tambo, malapit sa pampang ng Ilog Nilo. 4 Ngunit tumayo sa malayu-layo ang ate ng bata para tingnan kung ano mangyayari sa bata.

 

5 Noon nama’y lumusong sa Nilo ang anak na babae ni Paraon para maligo, at naglalakad-lakad naman sa pampang ang kanyang mga utusan. Nang matanaw niya ang basket sa mga tam­bo, ipinakuha niya iyon sa kanyang utu­­­san. 6 Binuksan niya ang basket at nakita ang sanggol – isang lalaki, at umi­­­iyak! Gayon na lamang ang kanyang awa at naisaloob niya: “Isang batang Hebreo!”

 

7 Pagkatapos ay sinabi ng ate ng bata sa anak ni Paraon: “Hahanap po ba ako ng babaeng Hebreo na magpa­pasuso sa sanggol para sa inyo?” 8 Sumagot ang anak ni Paraon: “Sige.” Kaya luma­kad ang batang babae at tinawag ang ina ng sanggol.

 

9 Sinabi ng anak ni Paraon sa babae: “Dalhin mo ang sanggol at alagaan siya para sa akin, at babayaran kita.” Kaya kinuha ng babae ang sanggol at inala­gaan, 10 at nang malaki na ang bata ay dinala niya sa anak ni Paraon na umampon sa bata. Pinangalanan niya ito ng Moises upang alalahanin na ang bata ay kanyang iniahon sa tubig.

 

Nakilala ni Moises ang kanyang bayan

 

• 11 Pagkalipas ng mahaba-habang panahon, binata na si Moises, at pinuntahan niya ang kanyang mga kapatid. Nasaksihan niya kung gaano kabigat ang trabaho ng mga ito, at nakita niyang binubugbog ng isang Ehipsiyo ang isang Hebreo na isa sa kanyang mga kapatid. 12 Luminga-linga siya at nang walang makitang sinuman ay pinatay niya ang Ehipsiyo, at ibinaon iyon sa buhangin.

 

13 Nang lumabas siya kinabukasan, nakita naman niya ang dalawang Heb­reo na nag-aaway. Kinausap ni Moises ang lalaking may kasalanan: “Bakit mo sinasaktan ang iyong kapwa?” 14 Ngu­nit sumagot ang lalaki: “Sino ang nag­ta­­laga sa iyo na maging pinuno at hukom namin? Balak mo rin ba akong patayin, tulad ng pagpatay mo sa Ehipsiyo?” Natakot si Moises at kanyang naisip: “Kung gayo’y may nakaaalam pala sa nangyari.”

 

15 Nang mabalitaan ni Paraon ang tungkol dito, tinangka niyang patayin si Moises, ngunit nakatakas si Moises kay Paraon, at nagpunta siya sa lupain ng Madian upang doon manirahan. At doo’y naupo siya sa tabi ng isang balon.

 

Si Moises sa Madian

 

• 16 Sa Madian ay may isang paring may pitong anak na dalaga. Nagpunta ang mga ito sa balon para sumalok ng tubig, at punuin ang mga labangan para painumin ang mga tupa ng kani­lang ama. 17 Pero may dumating na mga pastol at sila’y itinaboy; ngunit tinulu­ngan ni Moi­ses ang mga dalaga at pina­inom din niya ang mga tupa.

 

18 Nang umuwi ang mga dalaga sa kanilang amang si Reuel, tinanong niya ang mga ito: “Bakit napakaaga yata ng uwi ninyo ngayon?” 19 Suma­got sila: “Ipinag­­tanggol kami ng isang Ehipsiyo laban sa mga pastol, at isinalok pa kami ng tubig at pinainom pa ang mga tupa.” 20 Sinabi ng ama: “Nasaan siya? Ba’t ninyo siya iniwan doon? Tawagin ninyo siya’t imbitahang kumain.”

 

21 Pumayag si Moises na manatili roon, at ipinakasal ng lalaki ang kanyang anak na si Sefora kay Moises. 22 Nagkaanak si Sefora ng isang lalaki, at ito’y pinanga­la­nang Gersom ni Moises bilang pag-aala­ala na siya ay dayuhan sa isang lupaing banyaga.

 

Inalala ng Diyos ang Israel

 

• 23 Sa loob ng mahabang panahong iyon, namatay ang hari ng Ehipto. At dumaing ang mga Israelita dahil sa kani­lang pagkaalipin; sumigaw sila sa Diyos, at mula sa lugar ng pagkaalipi’y pumaitaas sa Diyos ang kanilang sigaw.

 

24 Narinig ng Diyos ang kanilang bun­tung-hininga, at inalala niya ang kanyang pakikipagtipan kina Abraham, Isaac at Jacob.

 

25 At nakita ng Diyos ang mga anak ng Israel, at ipinakilala ang sarili sa kanila.
